I've done some basic research on hedge funds and understand what they are, but do not completely understand how many people work at a hedge funds. I read about some hedge funds being run out of one's house and other hedge funds having multiple locations. I've heard of hedge fund managers. It must depend, but how many people work at a hedge fund? What positions can be found at a hedge fund. Today I found out that… It really depends on the fund, size and scope. There is no set number of employees, as not all funds are the same, not have the same level of assets or demands. Data as to number of employees is not available. In general: One would need: One or more Portfolio Managers depending on size, complexity and number of funds. There may be an investment selection committee. There may be a research department or the may be done by the manager or committee. There will be a need for someone to do accounting, in house and outside. There will be a need for legal counsel. There will be a need for regulatory compliance. There will be a need for communications with clients. There may be general support staff There may be a general secretary and or receptionist. There will be a need for a technology/ computer hardware and software expert. These are some of the basics. Links to prior hedge fund questions.

I read an interview about one hedge fund manager that manages several billion dollars all by himself. The guy doesn't even have a secretary.
